Krzemień Press wanted warmth without sentiment, which is a hard brief in a winter setting. I painted the cottage from outside and at a distance, so the light in the window is something you are walking toward rather than sitting in.
The fox on the path was not in the brief. I put it in the third rough as a scale marker, the publisher asked me to keep it, and it ended up on the box spine and on every piece of the campaign art.
