Rookery Editions gave me one sentence: a village under a lake and a bell that still rings. I sent four thumbnails, they picked the quietest one, and I have been grateful ever since, because it is the only cover I have painted where almost nothing happens.
The whole picture is a rowing boat, a tower and a lot of gray water, and it works because the boat is small enough that you look for it. It is the cover I use to explain what I do, and the four stages of it are on the process page.
