Ninefold Wood

A painted board where nine paths leave one clearing and the players never agree which of them the wolf took.

Studio Wolna had a board that worked and a board that was unreadable, and those were the same board. Nine routes leaving a single clearing, each with its own hazard track, all fighting for the same square meter of table.

I rebuilt it as a painting rather than a diagram: the clearing lit, the nine paths falling into progressively deeper dark, the hazards drawn as things you see in a wood rather than as pips. Playtesters stopped asking where the paths went, which is the only test a board has to pass.
